The Story of Coquina – 2019 Lagoon 40

Conversations From The Helm

Hello there — I’m Coquina, a 2019 Lagoon 40 for sale in St Augustine, Florida, born in France and built for the sailor’s heart. I remember my earliest days vividly: the hum of final fittings, the scent of new sails, and the excitement of knowing I was destined to carry dreams across the water. My first voyage wasn’t across the ocean — not yet — but to a place where I would meet the people who would change my life forever: the 2019 Miami International Boat Show.

Fresh From France

Fresh from France, I was chosen as one of the select few to make my debut there. I was polished, staged, and gleaming beneath the warm Florida sun. For days, curious visitors stepped aboard, imagining futures of freedom and adventure. I greeted them all warmly, but something special happened when Randy and Sally climbed aboard. I could feel it immediately, that spark of shared excitement, the kind that only true sailors (or soon-to-be sailors) carry in their hearts.

We were kindred spirits. They were new to this life, just as I was, but both of us were eager to learn — to feel the pull of the tide, the push of the wind, and the rhythm of waves against our hull. By the end of the show, they knew, and so did I,  that we belonged together.

When the crowds drifted away and the lights of the show dimmed, we left Miami behind and began our new life, bound for St. Augustine, Florida. There, under the expert care of the team at St. Augustine Sailing, we learned together. Day after day, Randy and Sally became more confident, and I … well, I found my stride.

Our First Journey Together

There’s one trip I’ll never forget — our first true adventure. We set out from St. Augustine bound for Cumberland Island, Georgia, for a long weekend of sailing and friendship. The morning we departed, the sea was kind, the wind steady and soft on my sails. I remember feeling alive — the water rushing past, the sunlight glinting off my bow, and the laughter of my crew echoing across the deck.

We weren’t alone that weekend. We traveled in company with three other beautiful vessels from St. Augustine Sailing — Rendezvous With Destiny, Enchantee, and Far Niente. We kept sight of each other most of the day, sailing in a loose formation northward. The camaraderie was pure joy — a small flotilla of friends chasing the horizon together.

By late afternoon, we dropped anchor off Cumberland Island. The peace of that place — the whisper of live oaks, the distant sound of waves on the beach, the wild horses grazing at dusk — it wrapped around us like a gentle embrace. Each night, we gathered aboard a different yacht to share dinner and stories. When it was my turn to host, I opened my decks to laughter, the clinking of glasses, and the warmth of good company. I’ll never forget how content I felt that evening — my lights soft against the water, my sails furled neatly, and my people happy.

The return trip was even better. The seas were calm, the sun bright, and the wind — oh, the wind! — perfect. I stretched my sails wide, gliding effortlessly south, cutting across a glassy ocean. We made record time and were tied safely in our slip before dinner. That weekend sealed our bond, and I knew Randy and Sally would always be a part of my story.

New Adventures, New Horizons

After a year, life called Randy and Sally in a different direction, and they reluctantly said goodbye. But my story wasn’t ending — it was about to begin a thrilling new chapter.

The moment Jeff stepped aboard, I could feel it again — that spark. He walked my decks, checked my lines, studied my sails, and by the time the sun began to set, he made his decision. He would be my new captain, and together we would chase the horizon once more.

With Jeff at the helm, I stretched my wings farther than ever before. We explored the Caribbean — island to island, anchorage to anchorage. My hull sliced through turquoise waters, my sails filled with trade winds, and my decks came alive with laughter, music, and moonlight. Jeff and I made a perfect team — he knew how to listen to the wind, how to read the sea, and how to treat me with care and respect.

He added new upgrades to make our life together even sweeter — a new sail that we loved to fly whenever the breeze was right, a watermaker, generator, and full navigation suite with MFD, AIS, wind, speed, and depth systems. Every addition made me stronger, more capable, and even more self-sufficient.

Over time, Jeff’s family grew, and with it, the number of happy faces aboard. I watched children learn the joy of steering at my helm, friends gather for sundowners, and couples fall in love under my starlit sails. My decks have seen laughter, adventure, and quiet reflection. I’ve carried dreams across miles of open sea, and I’ve never forgotten a single one.

Ready for What Comes Next

Now, though, my sails stir again. I feel the pull of new horizons — a longing to stretch out across blue water, to feel the wind fill my sails and the hum of adventure in my rigging. My systems are ready, my heart is steady, and I’m waiting for that next captain who feels the same excitement Randy, Sally, and Jeff once did.
